Josh's new project

So Josh is leaving Jan 2 for a year to go to Kuwait and possible Iraq, so in my mind there are ALOT of things around the house that need to be taken care of, I don't know mainly the bathroom or the crown molding both still halfway done after 2 years of living in this house! But no, he decides to build a new front porch, it's gorgeous and I love it, but it was one of those "huh" moments for me, Huh, you are buidling front steps for our house when we have perfectly good ones already...
Now I'm having another "huh" moment because Josh has decided to build the kids a new play house/tree house before he leaves, in 2 months!! He started this weekend and is done with the frame and ofcourse it's gorgeous, most everything he builds is, but why. Why build that and not do things really needed around the house... maybe he's thinking if something should happen to him that the he's done this last thing for the kids, or maybe because I know something he's always wanted to do so maybe he's thinking now is as good as time as any but, "huh"!!!!

observations
As I sit on the oouch and look around I see my youngest baby leaning against me sleeping, innocent, sweet, and gentle. You'd never realize that earlier in the day he was hitting his brother when he didn't get his way and is now going up and down the stairs with ease.
Next I see my oldest son, watching Casper and eating a bananna. He's is a bottomless pit when it comes to eating. When he came home today he was carring his new library book (a chapter book) and was telling me, "look mom it's got pictures of jesus in it", he loves the Lord so much and just wants to do what is right.
Finally on the love seat, my middle boy, sleeping but if I go to put him to bed he wakes up and tells me he isn't sleeping and sits down to cry. He is starting his mothering phase, I remember Clay going through this and I remember hating it too. Cregan has decided that he's the boss of the house now and we should just be doing what he says, in fact today he told me as much, he said, "mom, I'm the boss and you are the boss, but daddy is never the boss, right mommy??" What do you say to that?? I just started laughing...
Josh is at school, and the dog is somewhere sleeping, but that's a glimpse into my evening.

Cregan's birthday

Cregan (aka the birthday boy) had his 4th birthday on Sunday. He woke up announcing it to his brothers and I that he would no longer answer to Cregan but was the "birthday boy" today and should be addressed as so. We went to church where the birthday boy told everyone with ears who he was and how old he was today, if he didn't get a chance to then his big brother Clay informed them. After church, we came home, ate, napped and went to Grandma and Papa's for cake and presents.
He had a spiderman themed party, along with the Spiderman mask, costume, and web slingers. He received a spiderman chair, a sandman, a spiderman Mr. Potato head, a web slinger, and a batman with a motorcycle. He throughly enjoyed opening all his presents and then it was time for cake.
I had let him pick out the cake. Josh (who is gone in training) said, "You let him pick it out? It's chocolate right?." And ofcourse he was right, Cregan is a chocolate lover just like his mom. So we enjoyed some triple chocolate cake and he blew his candles out, it was a fun time.

Is it Fall Ya'll?

It's 7Pm on Tuesday evening the sun is setting on an amazingly beautiful day, warm, dry, just gorgeous. The flowers on my backdeck are in bloom still and the leaves although starting to turn colors are mostly still on the trees. My kids are in shorts, and short sleeves and it is October. Not October in Georgia, where I grew up and you pretty much expected warm weather sometimes even until December, no but Ohio!
I know the cold weather is coming. Anyday now it will be cold and we will being remember the good 'ol days of summer, the pool is closed and the winter clothes are already pulled out in reserve for when it finally comes.
So I'll enjoy it while I canthat's why I'm out here on the deck watching the kids play rather than making them get ready for bed.
Eclipse

Just call me an stupid romantic. (I'll put a penny in the no no jar later for the S word), but I cried, yes that's right CRIED while finishing Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer. The book was from a series of 3 books about vampires and werewolves and love what a combination huh. But it was very, very well written and I couldn't help myself from shedding a couple of tears for Bella, Edward, and especially Jacob. I am going to blame Josh though for the water works, I'm just bummed that he's gone for a couple of weeks and will now for the future not to read anything to sweet and romantic until I have him home... at until I'm ready for a good cry
Just a poke

Ok, so Cregan had to go to the doctor yesterday to fill out a form for preschool. He had to have a vision test and also an iron test. Before we'd even gotten out of the car in the parking lot, he asks me, "Mom, am I getting a shot?" Thinking that no, a shot is different than poking your finger to test our iron, I tell him no. We go to the office, and he informs everyone in the lobby of the doctor's office, that he'll not be getting a shot. We get called back, he gets weighed, and he informs the nurse that he will indeed not be getting a shot today so no funny business...
At this point the thought creeps into my mind, oh no, he's going to freck out about this poke... I think to myself, I must prepare him, BAD IDEA... I tell him, you know you are going to get a poke today. "A poke?" he says. "Yes, a poke, NOT a shot."
About this time, they call him for the vision test, he goes back relucanetly saying he doesn't want a shot, no giving him shots... he comes back, as does the nurse with the (not a technical term) poking device. Cregan is screaming and kicking and screaming somemore, I hold him down, the nurse gets his blood, it's all very tramatic.
After the process is done, the bandaid is on, and the nurse is checking he's levels. He tells me, in a loud enough voice that the nurses were laughing and talking about it outside, that that was not a poke, that WAS A SHOT.
Needless to say, a popsicle, sticker and pretzel finally calmed him down. But he still attest to having a shot at the doctors yesterday...

Inniswoods

So on Saturday, Josh decided he wanted to build new front steps, which is fine and dandy, except we have about a million other projects that need to get done before he leaves to go to Kuwait... but anyway, he really wanted to build this and that meant I had to get the kids out of his and my father-in-law's way ALL DAY. Which shouldn't be so hard because I do stay at home all day with them, but there is something different about having your daddy right outside and not being able to "play" with him.
We successfully got through the morning until around 1:00 and then we left for a baptism, and the kids were geniunely good (they had the wiggles but what little kid doesn't). After this I came home and my sister in law Racheal came over and we went to Inniswood Metrogarden. To me, this is like a little secret garden stuck in the middle of a neighborhood. It's great, I love it and right now they have a "big bug" exhibit with all these giant bugs made of wood. The kids love it, especially the spider part which is loving called "The SPIDERMAN!!!". When we got home around 8:00, I though for sure they would be done, but no still working... all that is left to do now though is the side railing and although I originally thought what a silly thing to do with all the things you can work on in the house I now am really happy he did, which is usually the case with him.
