An ode to the superhero

Oh Superhero you are so awesome in your awesomeness
You provide hours and hours of day dreaming for my little ones
You are beyond reproach or timeouts
You are a superhero!

Your titles range from Batman to Spiderman to even Indiana Jones
and your weapons are just as vast.
Sometimes you are a bow and arrow made from a wire hanger and
other times you are a hand that magically shots out invisible webbing
Mostly you are a sword or gun
fighting crime and injustice and well the "bad guys"

We don't know who the "bad guys" are exactly,
boy oh boy as a superhero you do.
You detect them in the room from swooping off the couch
and swishing your said weapon through the air
I can only assume the "bad guys" are too fast for regular folk to see
or that they are invisible.

Nevertheless you as a superhero will get them
and protect us all...

Conversations with Amber

I love my babysitter. Her name is Amber and she works at the Y with me. We've been friends for about a year now, she's a great person, but I knew she'd be perfect for the kids, because she's like a big kids herself!

Everyday, she'll have story that the kids have talked to her about and here's her latest from Cregan...

Cregan- "You know my mom is older than my dad"
Amber - "I know"
Cregan- "But that's OK, because my dad is taller"
Amber- "well that's good then"
Cregan- "Yep, my mom is like 45 or something"
Amber- "Oh really, how old is your dad"
Cregan- "Oh he's like 40 or something"
Amber- "I thought your mom was like 55..."

Valentine's Day

I try to be mad at Josh, I really do. And I get mad at him often, but I never stay mad for long, it's his goofy grin, or sarcastic comments that always put a smile on my face. This time it was a card.

I woke up on Sunday quietly got out of bed, pulled the 3 Valentine boxes for the boys out and the card that I bought for Josh, wrote in it (something sappy ofcourse), then I inserted the Itunes gift card into the card (because he's been complaining about my music) and some pink Orbitz gum (because he's always chewing my gum).

The kids get up, and are excited, Josh gets up and gets his card and I'm waiting, nothing... waiting nothing... finally I ask, "so where's my card?". He gives me a sheepish grin and says "Wait for it..." OK, I think. So I make eggs for the kids, and take breakfast down stairs to Josh in bed. "Now? I say?"

He says, "I'll give it to you after church". I know at this point he didn't get me anything... I know that it's been 15 years of Valentine's and he didn't even get me a card and I'm mad, no pissed. So I go ahead and get the kids ready for church, we finally get out the door and go to church. I think there's no point in being mad, he'll write me a nice long letter and it'll be fine...

Well, Josh had to leave church with Collin because Collin had an accident, and when I get in the car after church, I ask him so where's my letter... he smiles, and I'm thinking you didn't even write one did you...

I get home and sitting on the buffet is a zig zag version of a piece of paper, if you look at it from one side it says I love you forever and if you look at from a different angle, there's a heart. He spent the 2 hours home working on it.

I try to stay mad at this man, but I just can't...

Morning Conversation

I woke up this morning and heard the kids talking upstairs, so I slowly creep up the stairs and this is what I heard.

Clay, "Let's pretend that I'm sick, so that I don't have to go to school today."

Cregan, "OK"

I creep my head over so that they can't see me watching them...
Clay is laying on the couch and Cregan has my stethoscopes in his ears and his hand is on Clay's forehead.

Cregan, "Wow Clay you are on fire, you are so hot, I need to listen to your heart beat"

Then he proceeds to put the stethoscopes over the middle of his chest.

Cregan, "Wow your heart beat is higher and higher, now I have to listen to your brain beat"

Clay, "There's no such thing as a brain beat Cregan (sigh, as if to say, younger brothers...)

I come up into the living room and they are distracted, I make them breakfast, and Collin and Cregan are at the table eating, then I look over at Clay who's still on the couch laying down.

He has the stethoscope on his head!
