Ode to my Nan

My nanny (grandmother) is an outstanding person, I've known this forever, but it's about time all my friends in cyber space no it as well. My nanny has been recognized for a small amount of what she does for her city (Feltham). She is very involved with the elderly (not that she counts herself in that category, you know she's only 89...) She picks up the "little old ladies" on Wendesday for bingo, which she is in charge of organizing and taking care of refreshments. She is also involved in raising money for Hospice for children and other noble causes, to numerous to name. But let me tell you a little about this incredible lady...

My nanny born 1919 was the only daughter to my Great Grandmother and Great Grandfather, she had 3 brothers (all whom are now deceased), she married her first love and then then WWII started and her husband left her and so did all her brothers. Her husband did return in increments of time, just enough through the years to give her my Uncle John, Aunt Maureen and my mom, then the war ended and he didn't return...he left her for another woman. This is before the time of assistance for single mothers, she moved in with her parents and raised her children, working as hard as she could. Later she met my granddad, Lenny and married and had my Uncle Martin and enjoyed many, many years of laughter and joy before he passed away. My nanny also sadly had to see the passing of 2 of her children, my Aunt Maureen and my mom. She was by their side and even ended up raising some of my Aunt's family. When my mom was sick, she flew in from England and was by her side the whole time.

My nanny, eventhough she lives in England, always visited while I was growing up. She would come over if not every year, it was every other. She and my granddad were a prinnicle part of my life, even an ocean away. She would travel even now if her health would let her, but I prefer to visit her now. She has had a long life, but she does more in one week for her community and others in her community than embarresingly that I do in maybe a few months.

I love my nan, and want to congratulate her for winning citizen of the year...
